Murray Darling Junction Interpretative Visitor

Great Murray Darling Junction Interpretative Facility Inc

Visitors to Wentworth are much encouraged to visit the Look Out site on Cadell Street which gives a good view over the Darling to the iconic confluence of the Murray & Darling rivers.

Additionally, an invitation is extended to also visit (behind the Hospital) the Reserve to be now known as GREAT MURRAY DARLING JUNCTION RESERVE to stand at the actual confluence point of Australia’s greatest river systems.

The whole Reserve area is now becoming subject to the re-invigoration and development of improved and new suitable visitor facilities. In 2017 a contemporary Management Plan, for Wentworth Council as Trustee, is being developed o facilitate both ongoing management and the provision of appropriate developments to enhance the overall Reserve and visitor experience.

Briefly these will encompass:

  • A replacement , pedestrian & wheelchair friendly, Access Bridge
  • A developed 1300m pathway, with partial Boardwalk, incorporating a number of relevant interpretative displays, rest facilities etc
  • A suitable viewing platform at the Junction point with capacity to later accommodate a symbolic interactive Water feature mixing the waters of the Murray and Darling rivers.
  • Consequent upon the adoption of the Management Plan, later in 2017, action for works approvals for the above and funding sources will progressively follow.

We would appreciate your feedback of your experience on Junction Island.  Please click this link  Wentworth Visitor Information Centre , scroll down to the Contact Us section and send us an email.

The community support for these developments is being generated by the Great Murray Darling Junction Interpretative Facility Inc which group has now obtained approval for a tax effective project Account with the Foundation for Rural and Regional Renewal (FRRR); such Project account to seek public donations and support Grants for the financing of some or all the construction costs of the above items .The opening of such appeals should occur later in 2017 through the FRRR website. www.frrr.org.au
