The story of how the WASP began…..
One day in 2015 the Branch Manager of the local Wentworth & District Community Bank was working late and was interrupted by young kids using the bank’s ramp as a scooter fun area. So he went out to advise them to move on and then thought……why are the kids using the bank ramp? So he asked the kids why and they said they didn’t have anywhere else to go. Well that started the “journey” to reality. A Community Committee was formed in January 2016 and named themselves the Wentworth Area Skate Park (WASPs) Committee.
The Money Hunt…..
The WASPs got busy seeking grants from various entities including a great start off amount from the Wentworth & District Community Bank Board of Directors, a large grant from the Coomealla Memorial Sporting Club, a sincerely generous donation from the Wentworth Shire Council (who have now taken over responsibility and upkeep of the skate park) and many, many community groups, organisations, individuals and local businesses. The WASPs were absolutely blown away by its community’s continuous generosity and positivity. They were also successful in gaining State and Federal grants to get this 500m2 skate park happening. So on 21st May 2019 the official unveiling of the Wentworth Area Skate Park happened…..
The Story Continues…..
Although the Skate Park has been completed and has been officially opened, the WASP Committee are still busy finalising purchase of barbeques, play equipment, shade shelter/s, picnic table/chairs, lawned areas and maybe a half court. There are water bubblers, bench seats and a shade shelter there all ready for you and your family to have a great fun day and on behalf of us all we welcome you to our beautiful township and hope your time at the Wentworth Area Skate Park is memorable and most of all FUN FUN FUN!
